In order to make good progress with your language learning and enter more fully into the life of the community, it is important to take advantage of the many different resources that are available to you.It is likely that you have already had several years of English grammar instruction as a student, so while some classroom experience here may be helpful to you, keep in mind that there are many other ways to acquire and practice language skills.
ESL programs are offered both on and off campus for student spouses and other family members to learn and improve English language skills, but classes are limited in size and placement in these classes is made according to program guidelines and particular community priorities. Though you may be placed on a waitlist in the event a class is full, it is not always a guarantee that you will later be admitted
Remember, then, that in order to develop active language skills you should seek opportunities where you can practice listening and speaking in a variety of settings.Participation in activities where you interact with native speakers and/or other language students will greatly enhance your ability to understand and speak English well. . Meeting with conversation groups and partners, attending social events, even a chat with the grocer or a waitress can help you to build language confidence and fluency!
